Every list starts with a base layer shared across trips: ID, tickets, phone charger, power bank, toiletries, medicines, underwear, weather layer, water bottle, and sanitiser. The trip type adds specialised rows — trekking adds blister care; international adds visa copies and adapters.

How trip length changes the list
Trips of five or more days add a laundry bag and spare shoes — you will re-wear layers rather than pack fourteen outfits. Trips of eight or more days add a basic sewing kit and extra medicine refills for chronic prescriptions. Shorter trips stay lean intentionally.
Worked example: four-day family trip to Kerala
You choose Family vacation and 4 days. The generator merges base items with family extras (snacks, spare kids’ clothes, entertainment) but skips long-trip laundry prompts because duration is under five days.
A practical packing session looks like this: parents tick passports and tickets first, assign kids to pack entertainment tablets, one adult handles medicines and thermometer, another gathers rain layers for Munnar evenings. Run again if trip type changes (business meeting added to a leisure weekend), duration extends, or weather forecasts shift monsoon → dry season. The generator does not know your airline baggage limit — weigh bags separately. Share the checked list screenshot with co-travellers so duplicates stay out of the SUV boot.
Coordinating packing in a group chat
Assign categories, not identical lists: one person owns first-aid, another adapters, a third car documents for road trips. The generator gives everyone a superset; your job is to delete overlap before zipping bags. For international trips, one printed visa copy in each adult’s carry-on beats one copy in checked luggage.
