How fuel and total combine
Fuel cost = (distance ÷ mileage) × fuel price. Grand total = fuel + tolls + stays + food + misc. Per person = grand total ÷ people sharing. Fuel is shown separately so you can compare against the standalone fuel cost calculator.
Worked example: Manali circuit, four travellers
A group drives 1,200 km round trip Delhi–Manali–Rohtang–Delhi in an Innova averaging 14 km/l. Diesel is ₹105/l. FASTag and parking total ₹2,000. Four nights of guesthouses cost ₹10,000. Roadside food for the group: ₹8,000. Misc (permits, snacks): ₹2,000. Four people split everything.

Building a contingency line for highway surprises
Misc exists for punctures, tow trucks, and permit counters that Google Maps omits. A rule of thumb: set misc to at least 5% of fuel + tolls on Himalayan routes, higher if you drive at night or during landslide season. If misc comes back unused, treat it as bonus shopping money — not an excuse to skip logging.
Convoys with two cars should run the calculator twice with each vehicle’s mileage, then add totals. Splitting per person still works if both cars carry the same passenger count; uneven car assignments need manual adjustment in Trip Saathi.
Sample one-day vs multi-day drives
